Xiang Weiyi, a two-year-old survivor of the July 23 train crash |
The family of Xiang Weiyi, the two-year-old survivor of the July 23 train crash, have appealed to the public to help find the medical expertise to save the girl's legs.
The child was the last person to be pulled from the train wreckage alive. She had been trapped with her legs crushed for 22 hours. Her parents were among the 40 people killed in the two-train collision.
In an open letter headed "Please help save Yiyi's legs" published on his personal blog, her uncle Xiang Yuyu said the girl, who is still in hospital, is at high risk of losing the function of at least one leg.
He appeals for medical experts both home and abroad to help save her legs. He said the family will accept an aid program arranged by welfare organizations to find Weiyi the best doctors.
So far she has undergone four operations and conquered infections that caused fevers, her uncle said. But doctors have warned of the possibility of major disability in her more seriously crushed left leg.
She can feel nothing in the lower part of that leg despite all the treatment.
