Several photos of a traffic policeman carrying a six-month-old baby while on duty have attracted considerable attention from netizens, Huaxi City Daily reports.
After the photo was published on Weibo.com, netizens hailed policeman Zhang Long of Chengdu, capital city of southwest China's Sichuan Province, as "the pacifier." He grabbed an infant from a vehicle on Tuesday evening as the child's parents argued inside and caused a traffic jam near the Beidajin crossing in downtown Chengdu where Zhang was on duty.
When Zhang arrived on the scene, he spotted the baby in the car with the quarrelling adults and snatched it out to ensure its safety while he called his colleagues for backup.
"I was afraid that things might get out of control, which could have hurt the baby," Zhang was quoted as saying.
Zhang, 28, is the father of a seven-month-old boy from whom he has learned to be more responsible with both his work and his family.
"I believe whoever is a father would have done the same thing," Zhang said.
When asked about his growing popularity in recent days thanks to the photo posted online, Zhang responded with a smile and said he hoped people could understand and support his work.
