Rescuers Saturday recovered the bodies of seven workers that have been trapped underground a flooded coal mine since Friday afternoon in north China's Shanxi Province, local authorities said.

Rescuers continued their search for the remaining four miners still missing in a coal mine in Shanyin County, said a spokesman with the rescue headquarters.

A preliminary investigation showed that 21 workers were in the coal mine when the flooding occurred at 2:37 p.m.

Ten people managed to escaped while 11 were trapped underground.

The mine belongs to the Jinhaiyang Yuanbaowan Coal Company -- a subsidiary of the China National Coal Group -- and produces 900,000 tonnes of coal a year.
