He Guoqiang, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), called for sound and rapid economic and social development during an inspection tour in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

He, a Standing Committee member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, visited state-owned enterprises (SOE), residential communities and rural farms from Sept. 16 to 19.

He said the region's SOEs should make reforms in order to enhance their competitiveness and improve the living standards for their employees, adding that the companies must demonstrate credibility and ensure the quality of their products.

During a trip to a local orange orchard, He encouraged local authorities to increase their support for the development of modern agriculture and increase produce output in the region's farms.

Local authorities should make every effort to improve the living conditions for farmers and increase their incomes, the official said.

He, also head of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, asked local officials to focus on discipline in order to ensure that local elections proceed smoothly.

An anti-corruption campaign should be properly implemented to ensure economic and social development during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015), He said.
