One person was killed and 13 others, including 10 children, were injured in a pile-up of five vehicles in northwest China's Shaanxi Province Monday afternoon, said local officials Tuesday.

A truck collided with four other vehicles, including a van and a sedan, then fell on its side in the city of Tongchuan at around 4:50 p.m. on Monday, said the publicity department of the municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China in a statement.

Among the 13 injured, five people were seriously hurt. Ten children, aged between 3 and 5, were among the injured, it said.

Dai Yongchao, the 25-year-old truck driver, has been detained by police.

An investigation is underway.
