A prison guard in Weinan, Shaanxi Province, was removed from his post after he took a prisoner out to repair his house, leading to the prisoner's escape, Xi'an Evening News reported.

The jailer found the convict was missing while returning to the prison, and said he was not expecting the prisoner to escape because there were "only 10 months left in his term."

All officers involved in the incident have received disciplinary actions.
