Doctors are treating a worker injured in an explosion at a factory in Shanghai Saturday afternoon.

Twenty-three workers were injured in an explosion at a factory in Shanghai Saturday afternoon, according to the press office of the Shanghai municipal government.

At about 3:40 p.m. Saturday, police received a fire report from a plant run by RiTeng Computer Accessory Co. Ltd in Songjiang district in Shanghai.

Local police, fire fighters and medical workers rushed to the site.

A total of 61 workers were sent to hospital for medical check. Twenty-three of them were hospitalized for burns. None of the injuries were life-threatening. No deaths have been reported.

Shanghai television news quoted a company insider as saying a welder in the workshop somehow sparked the aluminum powder, which caused the explosion. Police did not confirm this.

The factory was cordoned off soon after the explosion. The fire was put out around 4:30pm.

The factory was founded in 2005 and has more than 12,000 employees.

The Songjiang district government is investigating the cause of the accident.
