A traffic accident killed six people and injured one on Monday afternoon in southwest China's Yunnan Province, police said.

The accident happened at 1:40 p.m. when a heavy truck fell on a car traveling in the opposite direction at a turning point in the village of Miaoshan in Poji, Zhenxiong county.

Six people from the car died at the scene and another was injured. Two of the seven people in the car were children, of whom one died and the other was injured, police said.

The injured child was taken to hospital.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
