More than 600,000 Chinese enterprises will directly report data to state-level or state-approved provincial-level data centers through the Internet, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Friday.
The move, part of the NBS efforts to refine its data generation system, will enable the bureau to skip intermediate links to directly access raw data.
"No government statistics agencies are allowed to replace survey firms in reporting data or alter their data," NBS head Ma Jiantang said at a national statistics work conference.
These enterprises will include large industries, qualified building companies and property developers, as well as large wholesale, retail, accommodation and catering firms, the NBS said.
By the end of February 2012, they will be able to submit this year's annual reports and the data for next year's January to February period through a direct data-reporting network system, which has been basically completed.
To improve efficiency and eliminate errors, Ma said in November that the bureau would establish an authentic and up-to-date standard sample database, integrate statistical spreadsheets from different industries and introduce a unified software platform through which any background modifications can be immediately recorded.
