Police in east China's Jiangsu province said the suspect who allegedly shot and killed a man during a robbery on Friday could be the same suspect wanted in a series of robbery and shooting cases.
The Public Security Bureau of Nanjing, the provincial capital, has publicized the photo of the suspect, offering a reward of 10,000 yuan (1,585 U.S. dollars) for information that could lead to his arrest, said Pei Jun, the bureau's deputy chief.
After a photo comparison, it is "very likely" that the suspect in Friday's shooting and robbery and the suspect involved in multiple robbery and shooting cases in the cities of Changsha and Chongqing are the same person, said Pei.
The suspect allegedly robbed the victim, surnamed Cheng, and shot him to death at 9:50 a.m. on Dongmen Street in Xiaguan District of Nanjing. The suspect fled the scene by jumping into a vehicle.
Cheng was robbed shortly after he withdrew 200,000 yuan in cash from a bank, said Pei.
Meanwhile, the suspect, a man in his 40s, is believed to have used a gun to kill six people and injure another two in six robbery cases in Changsha, the capital of Hunan province, and Chongqing Municipality since 2004, according to Pei.
Possession of firearms is illegal in China.
