Heavy fog shrouded Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, leaving thousands of passengers stranded at the city's airport on Friday.
The four-hour fog, which started at about 10 a.m. and reduced visibility to only 50 meters, disrupted a total of 74 inbound and outbound flights, causing delays and cancellations, airport authorities said.
Approximately 2,700 passengers were stranded at the airport.
The airport had resumed normal operations by late afternoon.
