Jia Qinglin, China's top political advisor, has sent his deep condolences over the death of renowned Buddhist master Ben Huan, who passed away early Monday morning at the age of 105.

Ben Huan was an exemplar of both patriotism and religious practice, said Jia in a formal letter to the Buddhist Association of China (BAC) and Hongfa Temple, the Shenzhen site where Ben Huan practiced.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), encouraged Buddhists and followers of Buddhism to follow mater Ben Huan's deeds, and contribute to the country's prosperity and social harmony.

On Thursday morning, a public memorial service was held in Hongfa Temple for Ben Huan, who had served as honorary president of the BAC since in 2010.
