Chinese mainland police on Thursday transferred a murder suspect wanted by Taiwan to the island's police authorities.

The Taiwanese fugitive Yu Chaocong was arrested on June 7 in Nanning, capital city of southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. Yu was believed to have fled to the mainland carrying guns with him after being accused of shooting a local bar boss dead in January, mainland police said.

The hand-over of Yu marked another major achievement under an agreement signed by the mainland and Taiwan in 2009, which promotes joint efforts against crime as well as judicial assistance.

More than 190 suspects, including major fugitives wanted by Taiwan, have been transferred to the island under the agreement.

The police from both sides have cooperated effectively in combatting crimes, especially in arresting and transferring suspects, according to mainland police.

In May, law enforcement officials from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan seized a total of 482 people suspected of being involved in a major transnational telecom scam with the help of police in six countries.
