The ratio of women to men in Hong Kong has dropped from 1,000 to 912 in 2006, to 1,000 to 876 in 2011, Hong Kong Census & Statistics Department said Thursday.

The department said there were 3,768,600 women and 3,303,000 men in Hong Kong last year, while 44,139 girls and 51,279 boys were born.

About 55.4 percent of women and 60.6 percent of men were married, compared with 57.5 percent and 61.6 percent in 2001.

It also said 75.8 percent of women and 82.3 percent of men aged 15 or above had attained secondary education or above, higher than 67.7 percent and 75 percent in 2001.

The female labour force last year was about 1.76 million, higher than 1.46 million in 2001. But the male labour force was 1.94 million, less than 1.96 million 10 years ago.

The median monthly income of women and men, excluding foreign domestic helpers, was 11,000 HK dollars (1418 U.S. dollars) and 13, 000 HK dollars, both higher than the corresponding income of 10, 000 HK dollars and 12,000 HK dollars in 2001. (One U.S. dollar is equivalent to 7.76 HK dollars)
