A high-ranking police official in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province has been detained in alleged corruption probe, the local Party discipline watchdog said.

He Jing, deputy director of Guangzhou Public Security Bureau, was accused of violating Party disciplines when he was police chief in the city's Baiyun District between 2003 and 2005.

Nearly 20 police officials have been questioned in the probe and some of them were also involved in corruption, the local newspaper, Southern Metropolis Daily, reported today.

He, 55, has disappeared from the public view since June 18. The paper said he was detained on August 10, but police didn't give any details.
