An Air China flight returned to the Beijing Capital International Airport after receiving a threatening message, the carrier said Wednesday evening.

The detailed information showed on Air China's official microblog account at Sina Weibo.

The police officers in the airport revealed that the message was sent from the United States.

Flight CA981 returned to Beijing for the sake of passenger safety, the carrier said in a special announcement via its official microblog account at Sino Weibo, without offering further information about the incident.

The flight, which was scheduled to leave at 1:00 pm Wednesday for New York, will be taking off again at 11:55 pm, according to the airport.

The airport later announced that "nothing abnormal has been found after the overall inspections."

Photographs posted online showed dozens of uniformed police on the taxiway while passengers lining up for inspection.

The Boeing 747 flight took off again at just after midnight to take the passengers to their destination, the airlines said on its website.
