The Mengla county government said 14 people, including eight students from Myanmar, remain missing despite several rounds of searching.

The Myanmar-registered boat capsized after leaving a village port in Myanmar, located about 5 km from Mengla county, shortly after noon Sunday.

The county rescue team said the accident was caused by overloading.

Twenty-two people, including 10 adults and 12 students attending a school in Mengla's village of Guanlei, were on the ship when it capsized. Local villagers managed to rescue eight of the passengers.
