In regards to the lack of talents in villages in southern Xinjiang, Wen called for giving equal attention to attracting able people from other regions and fostering local talents.

The second China-Eurasia Expo, a six-day international fair, opened on Sunday in the northwestern Chinese city of Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

Wen visited a vocational school founded in 2007 in Hotan. The school has since brought up more than 2,100 graduates, most of whom obtained professional skill certifications and have found steady jobs.

Wen revealed that future governmental efforts will be focused on addressing various issues faced by those living in Xinjiang's rural areas, citing inadequate infrastructure, inconveniences in conducting exchanges with the country's eastern regions and limited options for local villagers to seek fortunes.

While visiting health institutes in Hotan and Kashgar, Wen urged local hospitals to pair up with their counterparts in other regions to learn techniques and train personnel. He also stressed the development of ethnic medicines known for their low costs and outstanding effects.

As Wen toured Kashgar, an ancient city that has been undergoing a renovation project for its many poorly constructed buildings leftover from the past, he assured local residents that the renovation work will protect local traditional styles, improve people's living conditions and attract many more tourists and businesspeople.

During the inspection, Wen also held talks with heroic models and renowned figures from the religious and cultural circles.

"Xinjiang's southern region, especially Kashgar and Hotan, are largely inhabited by people of the Uygur ethnic group. They are diligent and honest, and they support the Party and government a lot. After contact with them, I feel they are very confident about Xinjiang's future -- like they have always been," Wen said.
