TWAS's 12th General Conference and 23rd General Meeting will be held in Tianjin, China, between 18 and 21 September 2012. The theme of the conference is 'Science and Sustainability'. TWAS Committees and Council will meet on 17 September.

Host: The meeting will be hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Participation: Invitations have been extended to all TWAS Members and to a select number of distinguished individuals from developing and developed countries. Participation is by invitation only.

Registration: A preliminary registration form has been sent to invited participants. This form should be completed and returned to the TWAS Secretariat (annualmeetings [at] twas.org) by 1 April 2012.

Language: The language of the event will be English.

Venue: All meetings will take place at the Renaissance Tianjin Lakeview Hotel.

Travel: Participants should make their own travel plans to either Tianjin Binhai International Airport, or, alternatively, to Beijing Capital International Airport. The Chinese Academy of Sciences will arrange transfers from both airports to the hotels in Tianjin.

Participants should arrive on 17 September 2012. TWAS Members involved in Committee and Council meetings should arrive one day earlier, i.e. on 16 September.

Visas: Participants need to check with the Chinese consulate or embassy closest to their place of residence about entry requirements. If a visa is necessary, participants will, inter alia, need to present a formal letter of invitation. To obtain this letter, participants will need to complete the 'visa information form' they have received from the TWAS secretariat (one form per person, i.e. use a separate form for the accompanying person), and e-mail it to the Chinese conference secretariat (fu_x [at] tib.cas.cn) by 1 July 2012. The Chinese secretariat will then be able to send the requestor the formal letter of invitation needed for the visa application.

Accommodation and meals: Participants will be notified individually in which hotel they will be accommodated.

The cost of accommodation and meals for five days (17-21 September) will generously be covered by CAS. Hospitality is also extended to one registered accompanying person accommodated in the same room as the participant. Neither TWAS nor CAS will cover any extra costs (e.g., telephone, fax, laundry, drinks, additional rooms). Participants and accompanying persons must settle such costs directly with the hotel.
