At 9 AM on October 10, two pitbull terriers went head-to-head with each other in an arena located somewhere in the suburbs of Beijing. A total of three fights took place that day, surrounded by thousands of onlookers, with bets ranging anywhere between 1,000 to 20,000 yuan. Words has it that the money totaled 200,000 yuan within half a day.

A dog suffers from severe bite wounds with blood dripping from its nose and mouth after a fight on October 10.

According to the investigations, dog fighting has been thriving in Beijing over recent years. The dog owners annually spend over 10,000 yuan raising and training them with the aid of a treadmill and tire. The illegal techniques, such as injecting stimulating substances and covering them with narcotics, are also used in hopes of winning the game. With no right to quit the game, the pitbulls have to bite, tumble and bleed to the shouting of the crowd.

The Arena

Two dogs suffer severe bite wounds.

The arena, shaped like a 10 square meter boxing ring, is covered with a blanket and encircled by the half-meter high railings.

The two dogs in the first race are named Paoer and Paul and their owners come from Beijing and Baoding, Hebei Province, respectively.

At 9 AM, the rules are read out loud and the fight kicks off. "Release the dogs!" Two pitbulls clash into each other, biting and rolling around as ordered. Their owners are standing at the sidelines, excitedly cheering on the fighters and issuing instructions.
