Six people died and another one was seriously injured in a road accident in south China's Guangdong Province Thursday morning, local authorities said.

The accident happened on a section of a state-level road in Chaonan District, Shantou City around 3:07 a.m., when a sedan car crashed into a roadside stone block, the local traffic police department said in a statement.

Police took seven people out of the car, among whom five were already killed at the scene. The rest two were rushed to hospital and one of them died there later despite emergency treatment.

Local police are further investigating the cause of the accident.
