Hong Kong police said that they are expecting about 100,000 people to gather at the city's main venues -- Tsim Sha Tsui, Central and Wan Chai -- to watch the fireworks displays on New Year's Eve next Monday, local broadcaster RTHK reported.

Extensive road closures will begin at 7:30 p.m. local time in Tsim Sha Tsui, where Canton Road, Nathan Road and other main roads will be closed.

Like previous years, the Hong Kong Tourism Board will stage the New Year Hong Kong Countdown celebrations on New Year's Eve to usher in the year 2013.

The show will feature an eight-minute display of pyrotechnics on various buildings, with Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center as the focal point. In addition, pyrotechnics will be launched on Victoria Harbor to enrich the visual experience and showcase Hong Kong's spectacular appeal.
