Police said the fire that ruined the factory of Hangzhou Youcheng Machinery Co Ltd in Guali Town in the early hours of Tuesday was an act of arson and a suspect surnamed Li has been detained. But police gave no more details as their investigation is still ongoing.

The fire broke out around 3am in the factory and burned a total area of more than 12,000 square meters. Nearly 400 firefighters with more than 60 fire engines battled the blaze for nearly 12 hours before putting it out, authorities said.

During the battle, three firemen, Yin Jinliang, Chen Wei and Yin Zhihui, died on their posts. They were honored as martyrs by the city government.
