A mother and her son's dead bodies were found in an apartment in Dongcheng District, Beijing on January 22. It is reported that they have been dead for two years' time. Police have opened an investigation into the matter.

Mother and son bodies found, dead for nearly 2 years

According to neighbors, the mother was around 30 or 40 years old, and the boy was about 5 or 6. The mother was pretty and shy, and her son was very rambunctious. Neighbors haven't seen them since 2011 and claimed they haven't seen the boy's father for 4 years. "We wondered where the mother and son went, and we heard that they went back to their hometown," apartment residents said.

Residents recall a bad smell coming from the apartment and flies appearing during August and September, 2011, and informed the neighborhood committee. However, they heard that the mother and son probably went back to hometown, and nobody had asked about them since that time.

Police sealed the apartment and have started investigations on January 23.
