Four foreign experts were honored in Shanghai for their outstanding contributions to China studies on July 27, 2012.
Igor Rogachev, a former Russian ambassador to China; Kazuko Mori, a professor at Japan's Waseda University, Jacques Gernet, a French sinologist, and Philip Kuhn from Harvard University were given the Award for Contributions to China Studies.
They got the awards at the fourth World Forum on China Studies. This is the first time for the biannual forum to issue the awards.
"Shanghai is my second hometown," Mori said. "I have received a lot of help from Chinese researchers when doing research here. I feel very much honored to be awarded the prize."
The forum, initiated in 2004, kicked off in the city yesterday with 280 academic participants, including 80 overseas scholars engaged in studies on China.
"The forum will help promote Chinese culture and enhance the understanding of China globally," Mayor Han Zheng said at the forum, which runs until tomorrow.
