Three cases of H7N9 bird flu infection were confirmed Friday in east China's Zhejiang Province, bringing the country's total infections to 43 as another two cases were reported in Shanghai the same day.
The three patients, two men aged 66 and 74 respectively, and a 54-year-old woman, were all tested positive for H7N9 at the Zhejiang Provincial Disease Prevention and Control Center on Friday, according to a statement from the provincial health department.
All three patients are in serious condition, the statement said.
Also on Friday, Shanghai reported two new cases of H7N9 infection and one more death from the virus.
A 74-year-old man surnamed Zhou, who tested positive for H7N9 on April 6, died on Thursday night after treatment failed, according to health authorities in Shanghai.
The death has brought the country's total fatalities to the disease to 11, including seven in Shanghai, two in Zhejiang, one in Anhui, and one in Jiangsu.
