A helicopter crashed after hitting a high-voltage cable in east China's Shandong Province at 6:40am yesterday, injuring several pilots aboard and causing a widespread power outage for more than two hours that cut off the water supply and shut down factories in Dong'e County.

The helicopter fell to the ground in Liaocheng City. The area was cordoned off and details of the crash were unavailable.

Tap water quit flowing because local water plants had no power, a worker surnamed Tang with the local power company said yesterday.

Two State Grid emergency power supply vehicles were dispatched to supply electricity to hospitals and other priority users, the local news website Dazhong.com said.

This is the second aircraft crash in recent months in the province.

Two Chinese air force pilots died on March 31 when their Sukhoi Su-27, a twin-engine fighter jet made in Russia, crashed into mudflats near a bridge in Hushan Town during routine training. The two pilots died immediately in the crash, which caused no civilian casualties or damage. The cause has not been revealed.
