Floods triggered by torrential rains have left at least 34 people dead and 11 others missing in southern China's Guangdong Province, Guangzhou Daily reports.
As of 7 pm Saturday, the floods had affected more than 1.13 million people in 32 counties in Guangdong, forcing 98,000 of them to evacuate.
The heavy rains have caused direct economic losses of more than 2.74 billion yuan, including the collapse of close to 5,000 houses and extensive damage to the crop fields.
Meanwhile, continuous rainfall has claimed a life while affecting about 200,000 people in Southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
As of Saturday, the heavy rain, which started on Thursday, has battered 14 counties in Guangxi, leaving 199,700 people affected and over 12,100 displaced in Guangxi.
China's meteorological authority on Sunday issued a blue alert, the lowest level in a four-color warning system, for rainstorms in the south from Sunday to Monday.
From Sunday to 8 am on Monday, regions in south China's Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and Taiwan will be swept by heavy rain or rainstorms up to 80 millimeters (mm) within 24 hours, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said in a statement.
Guangdong and Guangxi will experience downpours from 100 to 130 mm within 24 hours, the center said.
The NMC warned southern regions to take precautions against disasters that the strong rainfalls may bring about, including urban storm drainage overloads, torrential floods and landslides.
China has a four-color warning system for strong rain, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
