South China's Guangzhou City has issued a new provision to reward travel agencies for bringing foreign tourists to the city.

According to the provision, a travel agency that brings a group of foreign tourists to Guangzhou via charter cruise and then organizes a shore excursion for them will be given a reward of 10,000 yuan (US$1628) per ship. Travel agencies that bring at least 100 foreign tourists to Guangzhou on a given charter flight will be rewarded 10,000 yuan per flight; travel agencies that bring in foreign tourists by other means will be rewarded 10 yuan for each night each tourist spends in a local hotel. The previous per-tourist reward was 5 yuan for each night spent in a Guangzhou hotel.

The incentive, which became effective June 17, aims to encourage both local tourist agencies and their non-Guangzhou-based branch offices to organize more inbound international tours. These most recent provisions have higher rewards and a larger scope than did the last set of provisions, which were issued in 2010.
