Police detained a man surnamed Li, who is in his 40s, and is suspected of killing the eight people - from three neighboring families - following a row with the families.
A preliminary investigation found that he attacked them because he believed his house has bad feng shui, the traditional Chinese study of geomantic omens usually for buildings or cemeteries.
The suspect has been seized by police. Further investigation is under way.
