New airport built on hilltop in S. China

A new airport with the runway of 2.2 kilometers in length and 40 meters in width, has been built on the hilltop of Hechi, a southern city in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, taihainet.com reports.

65 hilltops and 23 gullies in the city had been leveled to build the airport, which is 675 meters above the sea level.

Wei Jianming, manager of Hechi Airport Company, said that the airport will be put into operation on August 18 and the new routes include Chongqing-Hechi-Haikou, in south China's Hainan province, and Hechi-Guangzhou, in south China's Guangdong province
