More than 600 representatives from about 30 nations and regions are set to attend the three-day conference of the World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) in Baoji City of northwest China's Shaanxi Province from Thursday.

Buddhist leaders including Bainqen Erdini Qoigyijabu, the 11th Panchen Lama, and Nichiyu Mochida, chief abbot of Japan's Sogen-ji Temple, will be among the attendants.

This will be the first time the Bangkok-headquartered WFB has held its general conference in the Chinese mainland.

Zhang Lin, deputy secretary general of the Buddhist Association of China, said at a press conference on Wednesday that the event will be a milestone for friendship between the association and the WFB, and that it will help Chinese Buddhists play a bigger role internationally.

The event, the 27th of its kind, will focus on Buddhism and charity.
