It's the official debut of China's fourth-generation fighter. The Shenyang J-31, also known as "Gyrfalcon" or Falcon Hawk by some military enthusiasts, is a twin-engine, mid-size jet fighter currently under development by Shenyang Aircraft Corporation. Opening day of this year's airshow also marks the establishment day of the air force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

According to Colonel Shen Jinke, spokesman of the PLA Air Force, one of the highlights of this year's airshow is the aerobatic flight of the PLA Air Force's new-type aircrafts, showing the achievements of China's air force and the development of China's aviation industry.
