A woman was killed last night in Beijing after getting stuck between a Metro train door and the platform barrier.

The incident happened at 7:05pm on Metro Line 5's South End of Huixin West Street station.

Commuters wrote on their Weibo accounts that the woman was stuck between the door of the Metro and the screen barrier on the platform.

"She was stuck in between them, and the train moved. She was crushed and then fell onto the tracks," a woman surnamed Zhou who saw the incident told news website thepaper.cn.

The train did not stop until about 100 meters, witnesses said.

According to The Beijing News, the woman was rushed to the China-Japan Friendship Hospital. A doctor said she was still breathing when she was brought in, but eventually succumbed despite receiving emergency treatment.

She had multiple fractures and bruises all over her body, the doctor told the newspaper. He said the real cause of the death could only be said after forensic results.

The woman, who was unidentified, was 34 years old and hailed from neighboring Hebei Province’s Chengde City, Beijing Youth Daily reported. A man who claimed to be her boyfriend told the newspaper that she was heading home when the accident happened.

Police are investigating the case.
