Liu Qiangdong, CEO of major online retailer JD.com, was spotted on Tuesday in his hometown of Guangming County in Jiangsu Province handing out hongbao, or red envelopes with money inside, to local residents for the Lunar New year with girlfriend Zhang Zetian in tow.
Twenty-three-year-old Zhang is also known in China as "Milk Tea Sister" after a picture of her holding a cup of milk tea went viral back in 2009, when she was still in high school.
Liu, 42, was seen handing out 10,000-yuan bundles of cash as hongbao, to seniors above the age of 60 around his home town.
Media reports say that Liu was introducing Zhang as his wife, though news as to whether the two are actually married is unconfirmed.
The CEO first confirmed his relationship with Zhang in April of last year via his official Weibo account, as new photos emerged online showing the couple holding hands and hugging in the U.S. city of New York.
The couple reportedly first met at Columbia University, where Zhang was studying through an exchange program with Tsinghua University.
