New figures have been released showing the average monthly salary of blue collar females in first and second tier cities has reached an average figure of 4,276 yuan after tax.

The salary of those in Beijing came in third place with 4,881 after Shenzhen with 5,033 and Shanghai with 5,000.

In regards to jobs, masseuses rank at the top of the list with the average monthly salary of 6, 214 yuan, the only job position exceeding 6,000 in the top 20. Those in Beijing can even earn a monthly salary of up to 7,321 yuan, followed by a maternity matron with a monthly salary of 7,149 yuan.

As high as the salary seems, women still have to face the issue of sexual discrimination which could affect their chances of getting a promotion. What is more, with the increasing living cost, it is becoming more and more difficult for men to cover all of the family expenditure which reveals why more and more women with families are choosing to work.
