The battle started with the Japanese invasion of west Hunan and lasted nearly two months from April 6 to June 7 in 1945. It was the last major Japanese offensive. After seven years in war between China and Japan, both nations were exhausted by years of battles. The battle inflicted heavy casualties on the Japanese, with an estimated figure of 27,000.
