Wei, former deputy head of the coal department of the National Energy Administration, was indicted by local prosecutors in north China's Hebei Province. He was also charged with amassing huge income from unclear sources.
Xu Jinhui, a senior prosecutor of the SPP, confirmed last year that it was the largest case in terms of ill-gotten cash since the People's Republic of China was founded in 1949.
Wei was placed under investigation last May following the discovery of the hidden cash.
