EY, one of the world's big four accounting firms and global professional service leaders, donated 350 laptops to two major public welfare organizations in Beijing on August 5.
The laptops will go to disabled children in southwest China's Yunnan, Gansu, Sichuan and Guizhou provinces and students in impoverished rural areas through the China Foundation for Disabled Persons and Shanghai Xinghua Foundation of Poverty Alleviation Through Education.
Liu Yuwen, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Foundation for Disabled Persons, said the donation could give more disabled children access to computers so they can find online courses besides experiencing the joy of Internet surfing and enhance their self-support ability.
"EY is committed to giving back to society through donating and helping those in need," said Yang Shujuan, Disciplinary Inspection Committee member of EY. "We hope we can give poor students and disabled children equal opportunities in education and access to the outside world."
Besides providing laptops, EY has offered computer-related training and volunteering service of career planning for students from impoverished rural areas in China over the years.
Yang said EY hoped more enterprises will join the public welfare and charity undertakings in China.
Over the past five years, the company donated 2,000 laptops to welfare organizations in China and its employees funded 700 poor students to finish their high school education.
