Their lessons included using fake breasts to simulate feeding a baby doll every four hours, changing diapers, and nursing the infants.

During the 10-day simulation exercise the men were not allowed to go outside, use a mobile phone or watch TV.

Chinese custom states that it is unhealthy for new mothers to go out, shower or use air conditioning for one month after they give birth.

The event organized by a private agency for nannies hopes that this could increase men's understanding of what women face after giving birth.

The firm said that more than 1,000 fathers had volunteered to take part in the exercise. The successful applicants came from Beijing, Shanghai and Shandong province.
