The 117 Tower was capped in the Binhai Hi-Tech Industrial Development Area of Tianjin Municipality on September. 8. With the main structure reaching 596.5 meters in height, it has become the tallest building in China and the second-tallest building in the world, succeeded only by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the Tianjin Daily reported.

The 117 Tower was capped in Tianjin, with the main structure reaching 596.5 meters in height, making it the tallest building in China and second tallest building in the world.

The constructor of the 117 Tower – China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co. Ltd. – revealed that the building is so named because it has a total of 117 storeys. The previous tallest building in China is the Shanghai Tower, with the main structure standing 580m high and having a total of 118 storeys.

In addition to the height, another 10 aspects of the 117 Tower have also registered new records in China and in the world, such as the sightseeing hall which is 579 meters above the ground. It has exceeded the 474-meter-high sightseeing hall located on the Shanghai World Financial Center featured in the 2009 edition of the Guinness World Book of Records.

The luxurious swimming pool, located on the 115thfloor of the 117 Tower, will also establish a new record. At 564 meters above the ground, it has become the world's highest indoor swimming pool.

Li Ganchun, one of the building's project managers, said that the 117 Tower is equipped with international-level office areas and six-star hotels whose main lease holders and customers are transnational corporations and international enterprises. The construction standards of the hotels rival those of the Dubai Lugger Hotel.

The Tianjin 117 Tower has entered the stage of comprehensive renovation and is estimated to be put into use by the end of 2016. Statistics from the China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co. Ltd. demonstrate the fact that China has currently built, or capped, 3,103 super-tall buildings, ranking first in the world.
