A ceremony was held Thursday to commemorate the 149th anniversary of the birthday of Sun Yat-sen in Zhongshan Park in downtown Beijing.

The event was presided over by Zhou Xiaochuan, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

All the attendees of the ceremony bowed to the statue of Sun, who is regarded as "a great national hero, patriot and the front-runner of China's democratic revolution."

Floral baskets provided by the CPPCC, the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Beijing municipal government were presented to the statue.
