An elderly couple lived in the corridor of a residential building in Haidian District, Beijing, for one day and one night as of 9 P.M. on March 27. The couple's third son has an apartment on the same floor. The woman, Zhu Sulan, is 77 years old. She said the two of them were waiting for their son to come home. She added that she has five children, four sons and one daughter, and all of them knew they had been living here.

A neighbor named Mr. Chu said that he discovered them lying in the corridor around 8 P.M. the previous night. He brought them bread and meals. Neighbors sent for the police upon seeing them living in the corridor but police officers came and left without doing anything.

Zhu said that she and her husband had been living with their oldest son, whose house became uninhabitable starting on March 26 because of relocation plans. Helpless, the son hired a van to send his parents to the home of their third son. No one answered the door as the elderly couple arrived which forced them to sleep on the floor.

It turned out that the third son is now in Hainan Province. Meanwhile, as their daughter is helping her big brother to move, their second son lives in the suburbs. Basically, none of them are able to accommodate their parents.

"They all know that we are living here," said the elderly woman, "My daughter even came to visit me in the morning. She brought me some food."

The elderly man said his name is Hu Yuhe; both of them are native to Hebei Province. The elderly couple came to Beijing some time ago, and the man used to work in a wood factory. They said that their third son got his apartment from the relocation of his father's previous factory dormitory. Their third son actually received three apartments, all in the same building, and he rented out the other two.

No one in any of the three apartments answered the door. The residential community's management confirmed that Hu Yuhe, the elderly man, is the owner of the three properties, but no phone number was available in the contact information. Zhu said that the couple don’t often call their children and did not have their numbers.

The couple continued to say that they did live with their third son for some time, during which the son kept them under the same roof but rented out the other two apartments. However, their third son forbade them from meeting others, including his oldest brother. Out of concern, their oldest son rescued them from his youngest brother's home to live with him. The couple also said that lawsuits were involved in the property disputes. The youngest son has promised to return the house to his parents but ate his words soon enough.

"His work is just nearby. He has to come back here," said the woman.
