A woman in Taizhou, in China's eastern province of Zhejiang, revealed that her husband cut off her nose, among other gruesome attacks since they married eight years ago, according to her post yesterday on Sina Weibo, China's twitter-like micro-blog platform.

Li Yun, an alias, moaned that she has been a chronic victim of domestic violence, saying that she didn't resort to divorce in order to have her child grow up in a complete family.

"My husband cut off my nose with an eyebrow razor and said he wanted to take it away because it was beautiful," Li told Beijing News as she recalled the horrible night last April when her drunken husband attacked her.

The woman said she spent over 300,000 yuan (US$46,000) on the treatment and reconstruction of her nose.

Her post quickly went viral online, with many netizens condemning her husband's violence.

"I thought that domestic violence which led to a woman's disability could only happen in Afghanistan, something that I learned from online news," commented a female Weibo user, referring to the mutilated Afghan wife Aisha, whose nose and ears were sliced off by her Taliban husband.

Others said that abusive husband is "a horrible beast" and that the crime has given single women a fear of family life.

The local police said that Li's husband, accused of intentional injury, has been placed on their online wanted list since last June. But the man remains at large.
