Police in Danjiangkou City, Hubei Province in central China, received a report of domestic violence in the early morning of May 8, but officers responding to the scene found to their astonishment that the violence was due to unfairness involved in the incestuous practices of the family.
Ms. Wang, 56, told the police that her husband Huang had beat her, but she was reluctant to explain why. Police soon found out that the violence started from a dispute with her 33-year-old daughter-in-law Liu over the right to sleep with Wang's husband.
Liu married the couple's son seven years ago, but for the last four years her husband has been unable to regularly sleep with his wife because he works in another city.
The old couple, in an effort to prevent Liu from filing for a divorce, agreed last August that Liu could sleep with her father-in-law every other day.
It seems that the plan worked well until last Saturday night, when, according to the agreement, Huang should be sleeping with his wife. However, at midnight, Liu sneaked into the elder couple's bedroom and drove out her mother-in-law.
The indignant Wang sent for family members, who instantly rushed over and discovered the incestuous relationship. Feeling disgraced, Huang beat his wife, leading to her calling the police.
Police tried to resolve the incestuous family's problems.
