A senior diplomat in China, Wu Jianmin, has been reportedly killed in a car accident in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei province, early Saturday.

Wu, 77, is now a senior consultant at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and worked as the Chinese ambassador to France, the U.N. and the Netherlands between 1991 and 2003.

He also used to be interpreters for former Chinese leaders such as Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai.
