An explosion killed two people and left 15 others injured in a southwest China county on Sunday afternoon, local authorities said.

The accident happened at around 6 p.m.in a commercial district in Yuanyang County, Yunnan Province. The explosion damaged to varying degrees several shops and residential buildings nearby, according to the local public security bureau. The injured are receiving medical treatment in hospital.

Police have ruled out the possibility of terrorist attacks, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
