The Chinese Ministry of National Defense (MOD) has refuted recent media reports claiming that missiles launched by China have bought down a Myanmar military aircraft and caused it to crash in Chinese airspace. The MOD's information office said such reports were "a sheer fabrication."

Earlier, Senior Colonel Yang Yujun, spokesperson for the MOD, said on Nov. 30 at a routine press briefing that the Chinese military was "seriously concerned about" the military confrontations in northern Myanmar, and has "strongly urged the parties involved to seriously address the security concern of the Chinese side."
"We urge concerned parties to take concrete and effective measures to strengthen management and control of the military operations in the China-Myanmar border region, and prevent such incidents from happening again," said Yang.
The fabricated reports of China shooting down a Myanmar warplane reflected the continued tensions after conflict broke out again in north Myanmar recently. Stray bullets and cannon shells were reported to have entered Chinese territory, causing casualties of Chinese citizens and damage to properties.
The PLA has pledged to strengthen border patrols, control and security protection as well as being prepared for emergencies, said the MOD spokesman.
"The Chinese military will resolutely safeguard state sovereignty, security and also safety of the lives and property of the Chinese people in the border region," he said.
According to the MOD, the PLA has also been cooperating with local government departments in regions that border Myanmar to provide shelters to Myanmar citizens who have fled to China to escape the warfare.
