Title: China-ASEAN Economic Ties and ASEAN Economic Community

Abstract:

Regional economic development in East Asia is entering a new phase of economic restructuring with a certain level of uncertainties and new challenges being emerged. China is going through a critical period of economic adjustment while ASEAN is thriving to build its economic community. Development gap is the main constraint in ASEAN economic community building and regional economic integration at large. China’s newly created mechanisms, such as the One Belt and One Road Initiative and Lancang-Mekong cooperation mechanism, compliment China-ASEAN comprehensive partnership and ASEAN connectivity. However, China needs to develop concrete strategic action plans in assisting ASEAN through harmonizing China’s regional initiatives with ASEAN community building blueprints.
