Title: Linking the Belt and Road Initiative with Other Countries' Development Strategies: A Strategic Perspective
Abstract:
Based on the national influence of the countries along the Belt and Road and their trade and cooperation with China, the author lists eight countries as China’s strategic partners that will play vital roles in promoting the Belt and Road Initiative in their specific regions, namely, Indonesia in Southeast Asia, Australia in South Pacific, Kazakhstan in Central Asia, Pakistan in South Asia, Poland in Central Europe, Iran in West Asia, South Africa in Southern Africa and Brazil in Latin America. After studying these countries’ national development strategies and the space for them to link with the Belt and Road Initiative, the author concludes that advancing targeted linking with these strategies will significantly speed up the co-construction of the Belt and Road. These strategies are: Indonesia’s Global Maritime Nexus, Australia’s Vision for Developing Northern Australia, Kazakhstan’s Bright Road, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, Sustainable Development Strategy for Poland up to 2025, Iran’s sixth Five-Year Development Plan (2016-2021), South Africa’s National Development Plan Vision for 2030 and Brazil’s Investment Partnership Program.
